Tiffany Muff and Landon Steele hope to record a new version of our city’s most famous song and film a 1940’s-style music video right here in Chattanooga. They’re using Kickstarter to raise funds. The deadline is June 22, 2013.

GPS Student Organizes Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive June 9th

Anjali Chandra, a Girls Preparatory School Student, says that people of South Asian ethnic origin are particularly needed as potential bone marrow donors.

"There is a vast shortage of South Asian bone marrow donors. An individual of South Asian origin has as 1 in 20,000 chance of finding a compatible bone marrow match," she says.

The drive will take place at the Chattanooga Christian Assembly (CCA) on Sunday, June 9th from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. People can call (423) 499-9888 for more information.

3rd Annual New Dischord Features Noted Composer Malcolm Goldstein

The third annual New Dischord Festival will take place June 6^th – 9^th, 2013 in various Chattanooga locations. Originally, the festival focused primarily on experimental and improvised music. Now it includes art collaborations, with local and national poets, musicians, dancers and other artists working together. Malcolm Goldstein, a violinist/composer active in experimental music since the 1960s, will perform on Thursday and Saturday.

Chattanooga Podcast ‘Another Story’ Delivers Compelling, True Tales

Ben Schnell, creator and host of Another Story, joins WUTC for an interview. Schnell’s podcast features local people telling true, personal stories. Schnell culls some of the stories from a monthly storytelling competition at The Camp House. Other stories come from interviews Schnell conducts. The free podcast is available through iTunes, and Schnell has also created a Soundcloud page.

A ticket to Sangria on the Southside comes with unlimited food and drinks--and benefits local Latino outreach organization La Paz Chattanooga. The event will feature performances from the Calo Gitano flamenco dance company, food from Taqueria Jalisco, Mexican beer, and (of course!) sangria. David Martin from La Paz joins WUTC to discuss the event, which will take place Friday, May 3^rd from 7 – 11 p.m. at the Lindsay Street Hall.

In this segment, WUTC’s Michael Edward Miller speaks with Greg Waite, the Community Chapter Executive for the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee about the free Tornado Warning App. The local Red Cross is also partnering with other organizations to present a free screening of ‘Tornado Alley 3D’ at the Tennessee Aquarium’s Imax Theater on Saturday, April 27th at 10 a.m.

Fans Welcome At Celebration Of Southern Literature April 18 - 20

This biennial literary gathering used to be called the Conference On Southern Literature. It draws major Southern authors. But it's also open to fans--in fact, fans have always been welcome to attend. This year, organizers have changed the event's name to the Celebration of Southern Literature to emphasize that the public is welcome. Executive Director Susan Robinson expects the event to draw more than forty authors and a thousand fans to the Tivoli in Chattanooga.
