Rabbit has been on the air at WUTC since 1993.  Originally a music host on the weekends and the producer/host of Celtic Harvest, she began producing news segments for Around and About Chattanooga in 2006.  Rabbit is an alumna of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga obtaining a BS in Exceptional Education and MPA with a concentration in Nonprofit Management.  Her background includes teaching, technical writing, IT, electronics technician, US Navy veteran and roller derby announcer.  Rabbit and her husband Jack live in Harrison Tennessee.

Guerrilla Urbanism in Chattanooga

Grassroots efforts to improve your community is a form of guerrilla urbanism and in Chattanooga this past month the issue targeted by the River City Company includes promoting more walking.  Park your car and walk around downtown and to help encourage this signs were posted at intersections pointing the way to local attractions with estimated walking times.

Legendary Pictures is filming the Jackie Robinson story in the movie 42 and portions of the movie are being filmed at historic Engel Stadium in Chattanooga.  Southern Hollywood Events is rounding up extras for the movie.  WUTC's Around and About producer Rabbit went behind the scenes to talk with some of the extras in the movie.

Berry Nice Weekend

EPB Strawberry Festival at the Chattanooga Market

On Sunday May 20th the Chattanooga Market will be celebrating the annual EPB Strawberry Festival.  In addition to the usual strawberry vendors you can anticipate seeing even more berries at the market this year.  Artisans and other food vendors have been encouraged to include the succulent sweet to their own products and displays to ensure everything is coming up strawberries at the Chattanooga Market this weekend, located in the First Tennessee Pavilion on Carter Street.

Red Riders and Tour de Cure

Tour de Cure is Saturday, May 19th all across America.  It is a bicycle ride to raise funds and awareness for the American Diabetes Association.  A team of energetic young bicycle riders have been training for Tour de Cure to join thousands of people across the country in support of diabetes research.  The Red Riders are people with diabetes riding in Tour de Cure.  Several of the young teens riding in the Chattanooga Tour have been training for months.

Final Performance of The Suntones

The Suntones have been singing four part harmony as a barbershop quartet for more than half a century.  They were the 1961 International Gold Medal Quartet winners in the Barbershop Harmony Society International competition and went on to become a regular feature on the Jackie Gleason Show filmed in Miami Florida.

Urban Design Challenge Phase 5

The River City Company is ready for the 5th team in the Urban Design Challenge to present their vision of a part of Chattanooga's future.  On Tuesday, May 15th the team will be presenting their design concept of the Vine Street Corridor, a street connecting the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with Georgia Avenue.  The presentation will take place at 5:30 at the Central Church of Christ at 400 Vine Street, at the corner of Vine and Lindsay Street.

Fish Fry with the Children's Advocacy Center

Flutists Flouting It

Honor Wind Ensemble Concert April 21st at UTC

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Music Department presents the Wind Ensemble in concert on April 21, 2012 in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center on the campus.  The concert will feature guest performer Sherry Burt, a UTC alumna and member of the Air Force Band stationed  in California.  Other guest performers include high school students from the Tennessee All State Band.  The concert is free and open to the public.  The Honor Wind Ensemble performance begins at 5:00 pm.
