In their recent collection of essays, two journalists from the South consider the influence of this region they call home on our country in the past half century.

Frye Gaillard and Cynthia Tucker - both Alabama natives - are the authors of “The Southernization of America: A Story of Democracy in the Balance,” published by NewSouth Books in Montgomery.

Together, they bring a multiracial perspective on how the crossroads of Southern history, culture and politics have shaped the national stage to this day - and where we might go from here.
