Imagine a dream for a signature park in the heart of Chattanooga.
It was a dream more than a century ago for Montague Park - where last week, a plan was unveiled to reimagine that dream for this century.
Among the features of what is known as “A Unifying Vision for Montague Park”:
- a renewed Sculpture Fields, with 25 locations for new sculpture acquisitions;
- expanded facilities for the Chattanooga Football Club Foundation;
- The Heart - a new space in the park center;
- The Community Front Porch, a new main entrance and “civic edge” along Polk Street;
- and improvements throughout the site: a pedestrian path and trail network, multi-modal paths along streets beyond the park; native plants; stormwater management; new parking and furnishings.
Scott Martin is administrator of Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors.
John Kett is managing principal at Reed-Hilderbrand, the landscape architect for the plan.
