President Obama Comments on VW Vote

After a week of local and state politicians speaking out about the ongoing unionization vote at Chattanooga's Volkswagen plant, President Obama has joined the discussion, "accusing Republican politicians who oppose unionization of being more concerned about German shareholders than U.S. workers," according to Reuters.

A Reuters article says that Obama spoke while meeting privately with Democrats in Maryland.  He reportedly said "everyone" is in favor of unionizing VW except for Republican politicians.

U.S. Senator (and former Chattanooga mayor) Bob Corker claims that, if the workers vote against the union, it will benefit the Scenic City--he claims Chattanooga's VW plant will be chosen as the site to manufacture a new SUV.  Frank Fischer, CEO and Chairman of Volkswagen Chattanooga, denies that claim.

Republicans say they are also concerned that, if plant workers choose UAW, future parts suppliers for VW may choose to not locate in the area.

Election results are expected after 10 p.m. EST tonight.
