Start It Up Episode 56: Nudge Yields Big Results with Subtle Changes

Formally called the Behavioral Insights Team (but more commonly called the Nudge Unit), this group of economists and psychologists was organized in the United Kingdom in 2010 and crossed the pond to the US in 2013.  Based on Nudge Theory (the notion that small nudges can produce large changes in behavior), the work of Behavioral Insights is focused on projects that produce social good.

On this episode, BIT member Elizabeth Linos schools Start It Up Host Monty Bruell on how the Behavioral Insights Team is employing Nudge Theory in cities across the US to modify behaviors and create positive change.  From increasing the diversity of police departments to getting delinquent taxpayers to willingly ante up, the opportunities to use these powers for good are seemingly limitless.
