Tennessee Earns C- in Nationwide Report Card

In the first week of January,StudentsFirst, an organization founded by education reformer Michelle Rhee, unveiled their nationwide report card.

The report card grades each state within the US individually. According to StudentsFirst, the report "assigns an overall A-F letter grade to each state based on how well that state's policies align with the StudentsFirst policy agenda."

No state made an A. Eleven states such as California and Georgia made an F. However, Tennessee was actually ranked 11th in the nation with a C- in the report card.

In this story, WUTC talks to StudentsFirst's Tennessee Representative Brent Easley about the grade, as well as Chattanooga Public Education Foundation'sDan Chaneller who says, "It's not policy that teaches children. It's teachers who teach children."
