Chattanooga Autism Center Hosts Conference, Invites Public to Awareness Day Event

Chattanooga Autism Center

April is Autism Awareness Month, and the Chattanooga Autism Center has two events planned: one will take place on Awareness Day, April 2nd, at Miller Plaza.  The other is a conference on April 4th at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd begins at 10:00 AM at Miller Plaza.  The fountains in Miller Plaza will be dyed blue in support of Autism Awareness and people are encouraged to wear blue for the event Light It Up Blue.  Information will be available on autism and some of the services provided by agencies and organizations in Chattanooga.  The event on April 2, 2014 is free and the public is encouraged to attend to show support for people living with autism.

The 5th Annual Conference on Autism is scheduled for Friday April 4, 2014 from 8:00 am to 3:40 pm with keynote speaker Dr. Raun Melmed, Director of the Melmed Center scheduled to address Autism Across the Lifespan at noon.  Next Steps, Planning for What Comes Next is the focus of this conference offering four tracks for attendees.  Two tracks for parents, one for educators, and a track for adults with autism will provide information on a variety of topics ranging from initial diagnoses of autism to adult employment.  Attendees are encouraged to plan their day for the workshops they have interest in and are not required to stay within just one track.  Advance reservations are required for the conference and fee waivers are available on a limited basis.  Call 423-531-6961 for more information.
