WUTC-FM Wins Edward R. Murrow Award; Will Rebroadcast Documentary April 29th

WUTC-FM, the public radio station licensed to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, was a winner of a 2013 regional Edward R. Murrow Award for a news documentary.  The region includes radio and television stations from Kentucky, North Carolina,  South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.  The news documentary, produced by Mary Helen Miller, was titled 'Just Plumb Gone': A Year after the Tornado inApisonTennessee.  The award-winning radio documentary will be re-run on WUTC 88.1 FM Monday, April 29th at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST.

Of the three winners in this regional category, WUTC’s work was the only award given to a radio station’s news department.  Mary Helen Miller produced the documentary for WUTC’s weekday radio news and features program, Around and About Chattanooga. Mary Helen Miller is currently a journalist for the Chattanooga Times-Free Press.

“WUTC is a community radio station, and this award highlights our strong commitment to covering local issues in a thoughtful, longform manner,” said Michael Edward Miller, host and executive producer of Around and About Chattanooga.

WRCB-TV in Chattanooga also won two regional Edward R. Murrow awards in the Small Market Television category.
