At her rally Sunday with President Trump and Vice President Pence, Republican candidate for Senate Marsha Blackburn associated her opponent with Hillary Clinton--something Blackburn did repeatedly during the campaign. She pointed out that Democrat Phil Bredesen had both supported Clinton and donated money to Clinton's campaign.
She made it seem like a vote against Bredesen was also a vote against Clinton, who was not actually running in 2018.
"Stand with me," Blackburn said, "and if you want to vote no on Hillary Clinton and her cronies one more time, stand with me."
This, and other aspects of her strategy--she aligned herself closely with Trump, promised to work to keep the economy booming, get the border wall built, and to support conservative judges--turned out to be a winner.
Blackburn makes history with her victory, becoming Tennessee's first female U.S. Senator.
