Revisiting Confederate Monuments - And Their History - Again

Here in Tennessee, the State Senate has followed the House’s lead to lift a requirement on Governor Bill Lee to proclaim Nathan Bedford Forrest Day on July 13th.

But, the day that honors the slave trader, Confederate general and early Ku Klux Klan leader remains despite an effort to abolish it - while a push to remove the bust of Forrest from the state capitol failed in a House committee.

Professor Michelle Deardorff heads the Department of Political Science and Public Service on our campus, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
