Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom: the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans after the end of the Civil War.
In downtown Chattanooga, one of the celebrations for this year’s holiday on Wednesday will be at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center - 200 E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. - from 11 AM to 6 PM.

Also on Wednesday in downtown Chattanooga:
- The Juneteenth National Freedom Day Parade and Gala. The lineup for the parade begins at 12:30 PM on Peeples St. The parade starts at 1 PM. The gala in Miller Park begins at 2 PM.
- The Juneteenth Commemoration Ceremony, featuring Inversion Vocal Ensemble, starting at 6 PM at the Walker Theatre - part of the Juneteenth Festival presented by the Chattanooga Festivals of Black Arts and Ideas. To register for the free event, visit blackartsandideasfest.com.
