Images of Africa: Molly Gardner Photographs Kenyan Refugees

Molly Gardner Photography

Chattanooga photojournalist Molly Gardner traveled to Nairobi, Kenya and photographed refugee women who live there. The women work for Amani Ya Juu, a fair-trade nonprofit that helps the women create and sell clothing and other goods to earn a living. Amani has several locations in Africa, as well as a distribution center in Chattanooga.

Gardner works at the local distribution center, and she has long wanted to travel to Africa to meet the women who create the goods that are imported here. In this interview, Gardner explains the special connection between Amani, Africa and Chattanooga and how Amani has changed lives for women affected by war and other tragedies.
