"Sounds of the Southeast" logo

Weekends on WUTC, we bring you "Sounds of the Southeast" - a sampling of signature shows from across the region we call home.

2 PM – Tennessee Farm Table.  Features the people of our Appalachian region who produce, prepare and preserve our food and agricultural products. The radio show ends with a bluegrass gospel song, usually from a regional musician or band.

2:30 PM – Sweetgrass.  The “softer side” of Bluegrass with a peppering of Classic Country.

3 PM – Thacker Mountain Radio Hour.  A weekly live radio show in Oxford, Mississippi that features author readings and a wide array of musical performances.

4 PM – WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour.  An all-volunteer live audience celebration of grassroots music and the artists who make it.

SUNDAYS

9 PM – Valley Sounds.  Shines the spotlight on original music of all genres created and performed in the Tennessee Valley. Each hour contains a mix of music, interviews and other special segments that provide insight on the creative process of making and performing music.

10 PM – Talkin’ the Blues.  Explores the latest tunes and the historic names in blues music. For the past 20 years, Talkin' The Blues has highlighted the tradition, and little-known treasures that lie hidden amidst the Tennessee Valley's wealth of talent.  Hosted by Bluesman Microwave Dave Gallaher.

11 PM – Bluegrass Breakdown.  An emotionally-charged, heart-rending, paint-peeling, splinter-kicking one-hour bluegrass show. Thematically, the show is all over the bluegrassical map, boldly covering such hot topics as broken things in Bluegrassland, gospel train songs, and "ain't" tunes. The show features new bluegrass CD releases, as well as live performances from the shows Nashville location, with some of the best in bluegrass.

Midnight – Ozark Highlands Radio.  Features live musical performances recorded at Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Arkansas.  With archival recordings from native Ozark musicians to the contemporary Roots/Old Time performers of today, Ozark Highlands Radio explores the history, tradition and current trends in traditional and modern acoustic music.
