A stone watchtower stands at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.
The Wilder Brigade Monument - or Wilder Tower - honors the Lightning Bridge, led by John T. Wilder, of the Union Army during the Civil War.
In September 1863, during the Battle of Chickamauga, the brigade fought Confederate forces on the land where the monument now stands.
Maury Nicely, attorney and author here in Chattanooga, has written a book on the leader of the Lightning Brigade: “Forging a New South: The Life of General John T. Wilder,” recently published by the University of Tennessee Press.
