For Hemlocks In Peril, A Fall Festival In North Georgia

Hemlock leaves.
HemlockFest

In North Georgia, hemlocks are threatened with extinction.

The culprit: the hemlock woolly adelgid, an insect resembling an aphid.

The first weekend in November, HemlockFest raises awareness of the trees’ plight - and raises funds for research into how to save them.

This year’s festival - tomorrow through Sunday - takes place for the first time at Cherokee Farms in LaFayette.

Jack Rogers is one of the coordinators for HemlockFest.
