"Scenic Roots" offers conversations that matter in the heart of Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley. From the mountains to the river, our conversations are rooted deep within every corner of our community - reflecting who we are, who we were and who we can become. We engage with the news that affects our community, behind and beyond the headlines. We build bridges that span from creators and innovators to storytellers and the outdoors. We focus on our challenges as many communities in one - as we celebrate what inspires us. We resonate with countless voices - in words and spaces, sounds and songs. We are "Scenic Roots."Ray Bassett hosts and produces "Scenic Roots" at WUTC.

Moll King

Moll King is a poet here in Chattanooga.

Last year, she performed from her recent collection of poems - “As You Did to the Leased of These” - on housing and homelessness here in Chattanooga at Barking Legs Theater for its 30th anniversary Incubator Project.

This Wednesday, starting at 6:30 PM, Moll will read from her collection at Townsend Atelier - in the Arts Building at 11th St. - for “Poetry and Poverty: It’s Time to Talk About It.”

Joining her as a guest poet: Nikki Lake, a volunteer with the nonprofit CALEB - Chattanooga in Action for Love, Equality and Benevolence - and director of the Chattanooga Community Co-Op.

I spoke with Moll and Nikki, who will lead a conversation after their performances.
