We build bridges that span from creators and innovators to storytellers and the outdoors. We focus on our challenges as many communities in one - as we celebrate what inspires us. We resonate with countless voices - in words and spaces, sounds and songs. We are "Scenic Roots."Ray Bassett hosts and produces "Scenic Roots" at WUTC.

In Alabama, T.K. Thorne is an author - and a retired captain of the Birmingham Police.

Her latest book - which delves behind the scenes of the city’s racial turmoil during the pivotal 1960’s - is titled, “Behind the Magic Curtain:  Secrets, Spies and Unsung White Allies of Birmingham’s Civil Rights Days” - published by NewSouth Books.

I spoke with T.K. earlier this summer.
