Governor Bill Haslam created Insure Tennesseeto help 280,000 low-income residents in the state get health insurance. But a small group of Republican lawmakers in the state Senate Health Committee killed the plan before it got off the ground, which inspired the creation of Women for Tennessee's Future, an organization opposing Republicans by grooming female Democratic candidates to run for office.

The organization backed two locals: State Senate District 10 candidate Khristy Wilkinson and Tennessee House of Representatives District 30 candidate Katie Cowley.

Across Tennessee, WTF backed or endorsed 36 female candidates in total, and Democratic organizer Krissa Barclay says this was the first time she could vote for women in every race on her ballot.
