On Sunday, the Ed Johnson Memorial will be dedicated near the Walnut Street Bridge here in Chattanooga.
In 1906, Johnson - a young Black man - was lynched by a white mob on that bridge.
Starting on Thursday through Sunday’s dedication of the memorial, a series of community events will explore the Ed Johnson story through history, art, storytelling and remembrance.
The theme: “Courage, Truth and the Freedom to Imagine a New America.”
Donivan Brown and Mariann Martin are with The Ed Johnson Project.
Note: Ray Bassett, host and producer of WUTC's Scenic Roots, will moderate a roundtable discussion at one of the Ed Johnson events, on Friday evening at the Camp House here in Chattanooga.
