Jack Pitkin Visits WUTC on Thursday, August 21

Chattanooga, TN – On Thursday, August 21, Mary Anne Williams will discuss the upcoming Mars viewing with Jack Pitkin.

Pitkin, the operations manager for the Astrology department at UTC, will discuss the implication of this once in a lifetime event. The interview will begin at about 9a.m. on Thursday, after Morning Edition.

Mars will closer to the Earth than it's been in 60,000 years, according to NASA. As Earth and Mars rapidly converge, onlookers will be able to view the red planet with the naked eye. However, a more powerful telescopic lens is encouraged for optimal viewing. Binoculars will also suffice.

Williams and Pitkin will discuss the locations in Chattanooga where the Mars viewing can best be seen, including the Clarence Jones Observatory on N. Tuxedo Ave. (off of Brainerd rd).
