Tennessee’s Attorney General is suing to overturn the Affordable Care Act, and a Tennessee group of faith leaders is protesting, saying it would be unchristian to get rid of protections for people who have pre-existing conditions.
The Southern Christian Coalition held a press conference in Chattanooga on the front lawn outside Memorial Hospital. The coalition is a statewide, nonpartisan, nondenominational group.
Reverend Scott Williamson of the United Church of Christ said, he believes Jesus would want healthcare provided for everyone.
“To be a follower of Jesus requires us to do just that, follow Jesus,” Williamson said. “Jesus who loved the loveless, fed the hungry, and healed the sick.”
