This month, health care professionals here in the Chattanooga area are talking about a leading cause of death across the country.

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

A series of events for local health care professionals begins Wednesday - organized by the Medical Foundation of Chattanooga, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, LifeBridge and the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society.

Dr. Mukta Panda is a professor of medicine - and assistant dean for student education and wellbeing - at the UT Health Science Center’s College of Medicine.

Lucy White is academic and behavioral health counselor there.

Dr. Chris Cunningham is Guerry Professor and UC Foundation Professor of Psychology on our campus, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
