The Tennessee Aquarium here in Chattanooga has been recognized year after year as one of the top facilities of its kind in the country.
But this has been no ordinary year, because of COVID-19.
When the coronavirus pandemic struck our area back in March, the Aquarium was forced to close - reopening over the summer, with limited capacity for visitors who have to follow safety guidelines such as wearing masks and social distancing.
The Aquarium now faces a large deficit due to the extended closure and the decline in tourists - and it is asking for the community’s help, as it prepares to hold its annual fundraiser next month, this time online.
Thom Benson is with the Aquarium.
