Telling The Complex Stories Of Appalachia

Silas House
Berea College

Silas House is known as one of the major writers of his generation here in the South.

He was born in and grew up in Kentucky, where he lives to this day.

Silas is a nationally bestselling writer whose work has appeared in The New York Times - and he has been a commentator on NPR.

His first three novels - Clay’s Quilt, A Parchment of Leaves and The Coal Tattoo - have just been reissued.

Those novels are deeply Southern Appalachian - and they speak to this part of Tennessee as they much as resonate in Kentucky, North Carolina and Southern Virginia.

On Sunday, Silas will be doing a virtual reading on Sunday at 2 PM on Zoom for Union Avenue Books in Knoxville.
