A monthly sea shanty singing session at the TailGate Brewery in downtown Chattanooga at 1464 Market Street, Chattanooga, TN 37408, on the second deck (floor)! Generally the third Monday of the month from 6:30 PM till 8:30 PM. Great food and grog (drinks) available. All ages welcome. This month’s Valentines theme is ROMANCE of the sea!
Free and open to the public. No talent necessary and songbooks are provided with all the best sea and river shanteys and songs, even some Irish ones to boot!

Feeling lucky? We’re bringing live, true tales of near-misses, happy accidents, and wild twists of fate. Our storytellers come from all walks of life to share real stories on getting 'Lucky.' We're talking times in life that go sideways. Times that if it wasn’t for bad luck, you’d have no luck at all. Times of divine intervention and thanking your lucky stars.

Presented by Ashley Callahan, “Catherine Evans Whitener and Other Women of the Northwest Georgia’s Tufted Fashion Industry” will discuss the history of candlewick and chenille garment production in northwestern Georgia from the 1920s through the 1950s. Callahan will highlight the roles of Catherine Evans Whitener and other women who were the leaders and innovators in the field.
Ashley Callahan is an independent scholar and former curator of decorative arts at the Georgia Museum of Art. She holds a Master of Arts in the History of American Decorative Arts from Parsons School of Design and the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Sewanee, the University of the South. She is the author of Southern Tufts: The Regional Origins and National Craze for Chenille Fashion, Frankie Welch's Americana: Fashion, Scarves, and Politics; Georgia Bellflowers: The Furniture of Henry Eugene Thomas; Modern Threads: Fashion and Art by Mariska Karasz; and Enchanting Modern: Ilonka Karasz, and coauthor of Crafting History: Textiles, Metals, and Ceramics at the University of Georgia.

Friends of CCA will host the Celebration of Creative Arts on Saturday, February 21, at Chattanooga High Center for Creative Arts. The annual fundraiser features student performances, visual art showcases, small bites from favorite local restaurants, and a silent auction, with all proceeds supporting student arts programs. The event is open to the community.
