Richard Winham Interviews Neil Halstead

Richard Winham to interview Neil Halstead (former lead singer of the band Slowdive and lead singer of the band Mojave 3) on Monday July 15 @ 3:00 PMChattanooga, TN – Time Out has called Neil Halstead "one of Britain's greatest songwriters"; NME said he wrote "the kind of honest, heartfelt love songs men are too scared or too cool to write these days". The six albums he has made - three apiece with Slowdive and Mojave 3 - have been universally hailed as "sublime". Two years in the making, Sleeping On Roads is the singer-writer-guitar player's debut solo record.

"There was", admits Halstead "no real plan. What happened was I split up with my girlfriend and ended up homeless and having to sleep in the studio for about two months. And while I was there I recorded some tracks without the rest of the band. They didn't get used on the last Mojave record, so I started to think about putting them out on a separate record."

After such lovelorn beginnings, Sleeping On Roads became a far sunnier affair as Halstead snatched time off to go back into the studio with friends "whenever the opportunity came up", finally completing the album earlier this summer in Airfield Studios, down the road from his home in Cornwall.

Sleeping on Roads is probably the most accessible piece of work Neil has done. Many tracks off the album might be mistaken for Bert Jansch or Nick Drake. Neil will be playing in Atlanta on Saturday July 13 and will stop by WUTC to do an interview with Richard on his way to a show in Knoxville on July 15 (please see events calender for more information on these shows.)

So mark your calenders, this is not an interview you will want to miss.

Monday July 15 from 3-4 PM
