Thirty years ago this spring, the Tennessee Aquarium opened its doors in downtown Chattanooga on the banks of the Tennessee River.

The addition of the Aquarium in May 1992 reconnected downtown with the river, spurring more than a decade of redevelopment for the area - and an economic rebirth for the city of Chattanooga.

We take a first look back - and a look ahead - with the Aquarium’s Thom Benson and Dr. Anna George, its vice president of conservation science and education.
