"Scenic Roots" offers conversations that matter in the heart of Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley. From the mountains to the river, our conversations are rooted deep within every corner of our community - reflecting who we are, who we were and who we can become. We engage with the news that affects our community, behind and beyond the headlines. We build bridges that span from creators and innovators to storytellers and the outdoors. We focus on our challenges as many communities in one - as we celebrate what inspires us. We resonate with countless voices - in words and spaces, sounds and songs. We are "Scenic Roots."Ray Bassett hosts and produces "Scenic Roots" at WUTC.

Rhyme ‘N Chatt

Rhyme ‘N Chatt is a community of poets and spoken word artists that describes itself as “a poetic family … providing a safe place where poetry is shared and discussed, and the poet is valued.”

Since 1999, the collective - full name, Rhyme ‘N Chatt Interactive Poetry Organization - hosts open mic sessions free for the public to participate and enjoy here in Chattanooga.

To celebrate this National Poetry Month, this National Humor Month and twenty-five years of Rhyme ‘N Chatt, the group will present “Poetry & Punchlines” with an open mic - on Friday, April 12th, at Wanderlinger Brewing Co., starting at 7 PM.

I spoke with Mark Anderson, Carla Poetess Phenomenal C - and Alex Volz from Alex the Band.
