“La Cage aux Folles” is the final production for the centennial season at Chattanooga Theatre Centre.
The 1983 musical - and the 1996 movie “The Birdcage” with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane - were both adapted from the French farce, first on stage and then in film, from the 1970’s.
The story - recommended for mature audiences - follows Georges, the manager of a drag club in Saint-Tropez - where Albin, his partner of two decades, is the star performer ZaZa.
When Georges’ son announces he’s getting married to the daughter of Dindon - a bigoted politician - Georges tries to mask his life with Albin when they meet the family of the bride-to-be.
Albin has other plans.
“La Cage aux Folles” opens Friday, July 19th at CTC - and runs through Sunday, August 4th.
Magge Cabrera-Hudgins is the director. Rodney Strong plays Dindon.
