Thirty five years ago in California, an earthquake damaged the eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

The span was torn down and replaced - and in the years since, the salvaged steel has been awarded to artists to repurpose and create something new.

Sean Paul Lorentz used some of that steel to build “A Sailor’s Son” - now on display at Sculpture Fields at Montague Park here in Chattanooga.

When “A Sailor’s Son” was unveiled in September, I had a chance to speak with Sean.
