Nearly a century ago, a female baseball player from Chattanooga struck out not one - but two - baseball stars of the New York Yankees: Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

Her name was Jackie Mitchell.

On Friday, Chattanooga Ballet presents a new ballet inspired by her story: “Curveball.”

The performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 PM - with a matinee on Sunday at 3 PM - at the Roland Hayes Concert Hall here on our campus, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Brian McSween is CEO and artistic director of Chattanooga Ballet.

Mary Kate Shearer plays Lou - short for Louise - the character inspired by Jackie Mitchell.

Ray is the host and producer of Scenic Roots, Mondays - Thursdays at 3 PM on WUTC.
