A new mural located on the wall of Champy's Restaurant commemorates historical civil rights sit-ins which happened in Chattanooga. The mural is called We Shall Not Be Moved.
On February 19th, 1960, several teenage Howard High School students had sit-ins at segregated diners and restaurants across Chattanooga. The demonstration proved to be an important event for civil rights in the city and the state of Tennessee.
The new mural We Shall Not Be Moved honors those exact sit-ins. The mural's development was led by Mark Making, a Chattanooga organization dedicated to creating art in local communities. Howard High students and local artists designed and created the mural which can be found at Champy's Restaurant on 526 EasstMarting Luther King Boulevard.
