The Bandy Heritage Center, Creative Arts Guild, Prater’s Mill Foundation, DSC Derrell Roberts Library, DSC Appalachian Studies Minor Program are proud to partner with Cheryl Wolfinger to present a Cherokee Basketry Workshop! Woven baskets were vital containers for transporting and storing food and supplies which were essential to survival for the Indigenous peoples of Northwest Georgia, especially the Cherokees. They also provided opportunities for artistic expression through the intricate patterns which could be woven into each basket. The Cherokee basketry workshop will provide students with the opportunity to participate in a creative and historic Northwest Georgia craft tradition by gaining hands-on experience learning to weave their own round reed baskets.

This class is a morning session which will last three hours total. All necessary equipment and supplies will be provided by the instructor. This class is suitable for adults eighteen and up; students under eighteen must have an accompanying adult present at all times. No prior basketry knowledge or experience is necessary.
