NO EXPERIENCE OR PREPARATION IS REQUIRED! Participants should arrive at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine Street, by 5:30 p.m. The evening will begin with a brief performance by members of the Chattanooga Boys Choir, followed by approximately 30 minutes of rehearsal before everyone joins together to record “What a Wonderful World.”
Observed annually on September 21, the International Day of Peace, established by the United Nations in 1981 and first observed in 1982, encourages people around the world to strengthen the ideals of peace and build a culture of understanding and cooperation.
The Chattanooga Boys Choir began its Community Sing tradition in 2016 with a recording of the South African song “Ukuthula” as part of the international Voice4Peace movement. That video has since been viewed tens of thousands of times online, and CBC has continued bringing the community together through recordings of “Be the Change,” “Love Is Love,” “When We Are Singing,” and other songs celebrating peace, understanding, and our shared humanity.
First recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1967, “What a Wonderful World” offered a message of hope and gratitude during a time marked by conflict and social unrest. Over the decades, Armstrong’s unmistakable voice and the song’s images of green trees, blue skies, friends greeting one another, and children growing up have made it a beloved reminder to notice the beauty - and the goodness - in the world around us. Nearly sixty years later, its message feels as meaningful as ever, and we invite voices from across our community to come together and make this timeless song our own. The recording made at this event will be released on social media later in the month in celebration of the International Day of Peace.
