As Hamilton County's Senior Population Grows, UTC Prepares Students with Gerontology Studies

In the next couple of decades, the area’s senior population will increase dramatically. By 2030, the region’s population over the age of 65 will increase from approximately 127,000 to 202,000, and more doctors and nurses are needed who are trained in geriatric care. At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the UTC School of Nursing and other departments are providing opportunities for students to learn about gerontology. Dr. Brittany Cusack holds the Vicky B. Gregg Endowed Chair of Gerontology at UTC, and she joins us to talk about meeting the challenges posed by this growing senior population.
