Storm Spotter Classes Offered at UTC as Part of SKYWARN

SKYWARN

SKYWARN helps inform the National Weather Service about local weather events through volunteer storm spotters and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is hosting a class on February 13, 2015.

The storm spotter classes provide information on recognizing cloud formations and weather patterns.  Storm spotters are trained in weather safety as well as how to report local weather abnormalities such as hail or potential threatening weather.  The National Weather Service relies on thousands of volunteer storm spotters across the United States to be the "eyes on the ground" when weather turns potentially dangerous.  Storm spotters are not storm chasers but simply and safely report existing weather conditions they observe.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's next storm spotter class is Thursday February 12, 2015 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the University Center on campus.  The class is free and open to the public aged 12 and over.  Reservations are encouraged.  If you are interested in participating, send an email to emergency management for more information or to enroll in the class.
