Southern Lit Alliance Hosts Additional Events After the Celebration of Southern Literature

The Southern Lit Alliance will host a variety of social events with respected writers during the 2015 Celebration of Southern Literature. Tickets/reservations for these special events are available by phone or on www.SouthernLitAlliance.org.

Moonshine Serenade with the Oxford American:
On Saturday, April 18, at 7 PM the Southern Lit Alliance will host a moonshine-themed cocktail party with Oxford American, the nationally acclaimed “Southern magazine of good writing” in the performance hall of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. The evening will feature music by writer-musician Clyde Edgerton & the Rank Strangers and a discussion of “Southern Identity” with Clyde, OA editor Roger Hodge, and contributing writer Jamie Quatro. Libation for the evening is a variety of moonshine by Chattanooga Whiskey, and the party will be catered by Events with Taste. Tickets are $15 and include two drinks.

“Why Books?” Printmaking Workshop with The Open Press:
The Southern Lit Alliance and The Open Press want you to get creative at a printmaking workshop on Sunday, April 19, at 11 AM. Master printmaker Steve Miller will give a presentation of his work and career as director of the Book Arts MFA at the University of Alabama. He will then guide participants as they create their own letterpress posters of graphically designed quotations of esteemed Southern writers using the equipment at The Open Press. This event is free, however, a reservation is required.

Lyre to Lyric: A Spoken Word & Jazz Performance

Join the Southern Lit Alliance for an inspiring spoken word and jazz performance on Sunday, April 19, from 2-4 PM at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. This event, sponsored by Jazzanooga, will feature acclaimed local spoken word artist Christian Collier, as well as the Dexter Bell Trio. This event is free and open to the public.
