Thank you to so many of you for your support during WUTC's One-Day Pledge Event on Tuesday, helping us to achieve our goal for the day - and then some - by raising more than 11,000 dollars.
It was a chance to show your support in real time for your NPR station here in Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley - and a chance to support HCS EdConnect, bridging the digital divide in online learning here in Chattanooga and Hamilton County.
HCS EdConnect is a first-of-its-kind initiative between Hamilton County Schools and EPB - along with community partners such as The Enterprise Center and Tech Goes Home - that brings no-cost, high-speed internet to any household with a child eligible for free or reduced-cost school lunch.
On "Scenic Roots," we spoke with:
- Dr. Bryan Johnson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools;
- Kimberly Rios-Gonzalez - and her daughter Allysia, who is now learning from home in East Chattanooga thanks to HCS EdConnect;
- Jessica Holloway, an innovation coach supporting Hamilton County Virtual School;
- and, Vivian Lozano Sterchi with La Paz Chattanooga, one of the community groups now guiding students and families to HCS EdConnect.
The One-Day Pledge Event may be over, but the opportunity to give continues.
Ten percent of what WUTC raises from the One-Day Pledge Event through Giving Tuesday on December 1st will support HCS EdConnect.
