We build bridges that span from creators and innovators to storytellers and the outdoors. We focus on our challenges as many communities in one - as we celebrate what inspires us. We resonate with countless voices - in words and spaces, sounds and songs. We are "Scenic Roots."Ray Bassett hosts and produces "Scenic Roots" at WUTC.

A week after the rioting and deadly siege of the U.S. Capitol in Washington - and on this day of the vote in the House of Representatives to impeach President Donald Trump for a second time - we want to share a conversation that included two scholars on our campus: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Chandra Ward is assistant professor of sociology here at UTC - and Jonathan McNair is the Ruth S. Holmberg Professor of American Music.

Earlier this week, I spoke with them - and with Marcus Ellsworth, the cohost of the Ground Game Georgia podcast, a spoken word artist and an activist here in Chattanooga.

Ray is the host and producer of Scenic Roots, Mondays - Thursdays at 3 PM on WUTC.
