Creating art from the outside has the power to heal on the inside.

Roger Ricco is an artist who co-founded a gallery in New York City that exhibits what is known as “outsider art” - art by self-taught masters.

For decades, the Ricco / Maresca Gallery has showcased works by outsider artists, creating a marketplace - and earning a reputation - for them.

Over the years, Roger has visited Chattanooga - including The AIM Center, a nonprofit that helps adults in this area live productive lives while managing serious mental illness.

On Saturday, September 16th, starting at 10:15 AM, Roger Ricco will give an in-depth look at outsider art at The AIM Center - 472 West Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. - as part of “Creating Place: Recovery Through The Arts,” a new two-day symposium at AIM on the visual arts and mental health recovery.

I spoke with Roger - and Anna Protano-Biggs, president and CEO of The AIM Center.
