Just off Brainerd Road here in Chattanooga, an observatory stands on a hill whose rock is about 450 million years old.
The Clarence T. Jones Observatory - which has scanned the night sky since 1938 - is owned and operated by our campus: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
This weekend, the Observatory at 10 N. Tuxedo Ave. begins the new year with an Open House for UTC staff, faculty and students on Sunday, starting at 6 PM - followed by weekly Star Parties for the community on Sundays when UTC is in session.
Dr. Keenan Dungey heads UTC’s Department of Chemistry and Physics.
Dr. Amy Brock-Hon, a geology professor here at UTC, is the Observatory’s associate director.
