(Aired Weds 10/01/25)
With Halloween on the horizon, a reimagining of “Dracula” is now on stage here on our campus, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
“Dracula: Mina’s Quest” - by Steven Dietz - is an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s gothic horror novel that centers the story on Mina Murray, the intended bride of Count Dracula.
It’s the first production for the new season at UTC Theatre Co. - with performances under way at the Dorothy Hackett Ward Theatre in UTC’s Fine Arts Center through Saturday.
Laurie Melnik Allen, the director, is the Lyndhurst Chair of Excellence in Arts Education and Professor of Practice in Theatre Education here at UTC.
I spoke with her and two UTC students in the production: Cameron Schulz plays Mina Murray - and Adam Tisdale is assistant set designer.
