The Marian Anderson String Quartet - from a performance last year.

The Marian Anderson String Quartet is the first African-American ensemble to win a major classical music competition.

The four Black women who comprise the Quartet’s members have performed around the world for more than thirty years.

This week, the Quartet is in residence here on our campus, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga - including a free public concert on Friday, starting at 7:30 PM, in the Cadek Recital Hall.

I spoke with violinist Diedra Lawrence of the Quartet - and Dr. Jonathan McNair, the Ruth S. Holmberg Professor of American Music here at UTC.
