This month, Hamilton County launched its Overdose Prevention Team, the first of its kind in Tennessee.
Paramedics and peer support specialists on the team, run through Hamilton County EMS, are helping people get treatment and recovery support.
While the team was created in response to the effects of opioid addiction in the county, it’s not limited to just opioid-related calls.
Christy Cooper is the County’s administrator of public safety under Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp.

Joeli Pifer is communications manager and public information officer for the Hamilton County Health Department.
