Engel Stadium was built in Chattanooga during the Great Depression.

Until 1999, it was the home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, who then moved to AT&T Field - and next year, the minor league baseball team will move to the newly-completed Erlanger Park in the South Broad District.

Last month, this campus - the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga - confirmed Engel Stadium will be torn down to be replaced by a women’s athletic complex - and a commitment to honor the stadium’s history.

Who was Joe Engel, the baseball player who became the larger-than-life owner of the Lookouts?

Filmmaker Charles Ambrose is on a quest to tell his story in “The Barnum of Baseball.”
