(Aired Tues 2/24/26)
Public spaces are meant to be more than places for people to gather.
They are also meant to host, build and reflect a community for all.
In that sense, they are an example of what is known as “The Commons”: the idea of a natural or cultural resource for all, shared by all.
Bridget Marquis is the director of Reimagining the Civic Commons, a nationwide initiative that aims to help communities tap into the potential of that idea.
On Thursday, Bridget will be the speaker at CIVIQ - that’s C-I-V-I-Q - presented by Chattanooga Design Studio at the downtown Chattanooga Public Library. Doors open at 5:30 PM.
I spoke with her - and Eric Myers, the Studio’s executive director.
