Where Class Is In Session ... Outdoors

The Wauhatchie School

Near Lookout Mountain is a school that is totally outdoors.

The Wauhatchie School, which opened in 2015, teaches pre-kindergarteners through third graders - as well as home school students.

There, Nature is the campus.

Outdoor learning models such as the one at Wauhatchie - and also at Ivy Academy in Soddy-Daisy - have been around since the 19th Century, but they have seen renewed interest because of the pandemic.

Dr. Jean Lomino - one of our guests on our very first “Scenic Roots” - is co-founder of The Wauhatchie School.
