It’s a literary destination for Southern writers - even when it’s all virtual. Southern Lit Alliance here in Chattanooga will present the SouthWord Abridged Literary Festival - featuring talks by authors and panel discussions - on Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th.

Tropical Storm Frances makes its second landfall in Florida, churning into the state's panhandle with an expected 10 inches of rain and 65 miles-an-hour wind. Over the weekend, the storm plowed into Florida's Atlantic coast as a category two hurricane. As this year’s Pride Month ends, a coming-of-age play that bends expectations is the next production from Obvious Dad, the experimental theatre company here in Chattanooga. “Brief Chronicle: Books 6 - 8” by Agnes Borinsky premieres Friday at 7:30 PM at the Fine Arts Center on our campus, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Día de los Muertos - or Day of the Dead - is a Latin American tradition, observed mostly in Mexico, that honors the dead with festivals and celebrations. Each year, it falls on November 1st and 2nd - but Creative Arts Guild in Dalton will celebrate early, on Friday starting at 6 PM.

It was a pivotal partnership across racial and religious lines during the civil rights movement of the 1950’s and 1960’s. That story is told in the documentary film “Shared Legacies: The African-American Jewish Civil Rights Alliance” - and on Thursday starting at 6 PM, it will be screened at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center here in Chattanooga.
