Students in Dalton and across Whitfield County in North Georgia are creating their own podcasts in school.

The podcasting initiative - called “Speak Up Whitfield” - began two years ago in Dalton.

Last month, “Speak Up Whitfield” celebrated the podcasters at The Wink Theater in downtown Dalton with an awards ceremony for podcasts in three categories: students in 5th through 8th grade, students in 9th through 12th grade and teacher / staff, as well as overall school awards and superlatives.

Full disclosure: I was asked to be one of the judges.

Amanda Triplett is journalism teacher at Dalton Junior High.

Julia Cagle is media specialist at Dalton Academy / Dalton Junior High.
